The goal of the Empowerment and Equity Opportunities for Excellence in Science scheme is to help researchers from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes do research in cutting-edge areas of Science and Engineering.

Advantages of Opportunities for Empowerment and Equity for Excellence in Science

  • The most money that can be given is Rs. 50 lakhs (excluding overhead charges).
  • The research grant will pay for equipment, people, supplies, travel, and anything else that might come up. Overhead will be paid according to SERB’s rules at the time.
  • The project will last for no longer than three years.

Criteria for eligibility

  • The person who wants to apply must be a citizen of India.
  • Should be an active researcher from a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe who works regularly in the field of Science and Engineering at an academic institution, national lab, or other recognised R&D institution.
  • The person applying should have a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering or an M.D., M.S., M.D.S., or M.V.Sc.
  • As of the date the proposal is turned in, the applicant should have at least four years of service left before they can retire.
  • Researchers or scientists who have an EMEQ project that is still going on at the time the proposal is due are not allowed to apply.
  • In the scheme, co-investigators are not allowed.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism of any kind is not allowed in any of the proposals that are sent in. All proposals would be checked by a third party for similarities, and proposals could be rejected if they were found to be copied. Applicants are asked to check their proposals for plagiarism before they upload them so that they don’t get in trouble later.

  • First, people who want to apply should go to the SERB online portal’s official website.
  • Your screen will show you the homepage, where you need to click on the Register link.
  • Now, a page to sign up will open on your screen, where you’ll need to fill in information like:
  • Personal details
  • Biodata
  • Photo ID Email Address of the Institute Date of Birth, etc.
  • Title of the project Summary of the project Goal of the project Other information, etc.
  • After you’ve filled out all the information, click the “Submit” button to send the application form.

What you need to know

  • The project shouldn’t go on for more than three years.
  • The grant will pay for big pieces of equipment, people, supplies, travel, and unexpected costs.
  • The implementing institution will be given the overhead costs based on the rules of the SERB.
  • In this programme, you can’t have a co-investigator.
  • The Institutional Biosafety Committee should look over and sign off on projects that involve work with recombinant DNA. The proposal for the project should come with a certificate from this committee.
  • The Institutional Ethics Committee should look over and approve any projects that are clinically focused or involve experiments on humans or animals. The project proposal should come with certificates from this committee.
  • In the field of Earth Sciences, proposals should include a geological map of the area that will be studied.
  • In all future communications, the applicant must include the File No. (given by SERB) and the title of the proposals.
  • Before the final submission, the Principal Investigator (PI) needs to make sure that the proposal has everything it needs (including the attachments). The attachments that have been scanned should be easy to read. Proposals that aren’t complete or have documents that can’t be read will be rejected right away.
