IGSTC Industrial Fellowship 2023: How to Apply Online, Who Can Apply, and What You Can Get

IGSTC Industrial Fellowship 2023: The Indo-German Science and Technology Centre, which was set up by the Department of Science and Technology of the Indian government and the Federal Minister of Education and Research of the German government, is now accepting applications for industrial fellowships. This was announced on IGSTC’s 11th Foundation Day, June 14, 2021.

The programme was started at a virtual meeting where the IGSTC Governing Body Co-chairs and members, as well as people from the Indian and German governments, businesses, and universities, were present. SK Varshney, who is the Head of the International Division of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indian Co-chair of the IGSTC, congratulated everyone involved and said that the Centre has made a name for itself by promoting German cooperation in applied research and technology development by industries.

This programme will send talented Indian researchers to Germany to work with German companies or government institutes for Applied Science.

What is the 2023 IGSTC Industrial Fellowship?

The Department of Science and Technology set up the Indo-German Science and Technology Center. This fellowship is meant to help S&T students or resources with a good track record and an interest in applied research and technology development. The IGSTC industrial fellowship will help young Indian PhD students and post-doctoral researchers in science and engineering get industrial experience at German companies and research and development institutions.

Through this programme, talented Indian scientists will be sent to Germany to work for companies or government institutes for Applied Science. As fellows, they can build relationships between countries that will last for a long time.

IGSTC Industrial Fellowship’s Goal

The goal of the proposed programme is to:

  • Through outstanding researchers, encourage and make it possible for German and Indian businesses and universities to work together.
  • Expose researchers to industry and industrial research and development to get them more interested in applied research.
  • Set up ways for doctoral students and early-career researchers to do applied research by networking with the business world.

IGSTC Industrial Fellowship Pros and Cons

The money will only be given for:

  • PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowship: €1,500 per month; Post-PhD Industrial Fellowship: €2,500 per month; Single round-trip economy class airfare, including visa fees and medical/travel insurance: up to €1,000.

Criteria for eligibility

  • The person applying must be a citizen of India.
  • Use a portal on the IGSTC website (www.igstc.org) to send the application online. We won’t accept submissions made through any other means.
  • The applicant must make a detailed plan of what they will do during the fellowship, including the goal, how they will do it, and what they hope to get out of it.
  • During both Fellowships, the person who wins will live with the industry or industrial research organisation. The applicant is the only one who can choose and be accepted by the industry or industrial research organisation. At the time of the application, the applicant should make sure to have a letter of support or permission from the host industry or organisation.
  • At the time of application, the applicant who is affiliated with an institution must bring a letter of no objection from the head of the institution.
  • Applicants must send in a letter of recommendation from their mentor at the parent organisation.
  • PDF applicants who are not part of an institution can send in two letters of recommendation.
  • The person who wins will act and follow the rules of the German host organisation and country. STC will not be responsible if the awardee breaks any of the Rules and Regulations.
  • The IGSTC grant can only be used to pay for a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, visa fees, and health/travel insurance.
  • IGSTC will send the grant money to the awardee/parent institution’s Indian bank account in INR.
  • The winner must start his or her trip within 6 months of receiving the award letter.
  • There won’t be any talks about making the Fellowship last longer.
  • If the awardee stops the Fellowship before the end of its term, the awardee and the host mentor must let IGSTC know by email or letter.
  • Within 4 weeks of finishing the Fellowship, the recipient must send IGSTC a detailed report signed off by the host mentor and in the format required, along with photos that show what the Fellowship was about.
  • The person who gets the award must give credit to the IGSTC Industrial Fellowship in all online and printed documents, communications, reports, publications, Ph.D. theses, etc., that are based on the work that came out of the Fellowship.

Programme Details

There are two types of Fellowships that this programme helps fund:

  • PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowships (PIEF): PhD students in India who are studying science or engineering and have finished at least one year of their PhD programme can apply for the Fellowship. Young researchers with high-quality research projects that use new ways of thinking to come up with new ideas and advance technology in certain industrial research setups in Germany may be considered. The Fellowship will last between 3 and 6 months.
  • Age limit: 30 yrs.
  • Post-Doctoral Industrial Fellowships (PDIF): Any Indian institution or university that has given a PhD in science or engineering within 3 years of the application deadline is eligible to send in an application. Researchers who are very good but don’t have permanent jobs or are taking a break from their careers can apply. Those who have already turned in their PhD thesis can also apply. The Fellowship can be used to work at any industrial research centre in Germany. The Fellowship will last between 6 and 12 months.
  • Age limit: 35 yrs.

  • Your screen will show you the homepage, where you must click on the Apply Now link.
  • Now, the page to sign up will show up on your screen, where you’ll need to fill in the required information.
  • After you’ve filled in all the correct information, click the “Submit” button to send the application form.
