The Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship is a chance for working professionals in different fields who want to make a difference in society. Many people have said that the fellowship journey is a rich mix of learning about our country’s public education system, making a difference on the ground, and building a career in the social sector.
During the programme, fellows will be immersed in the real India and learn a lot about education. They will also have the chance to help build a just, fair, human, and sustainable society. In the past, fellows came from companies like NIAS, KPMG, ERNST& YOUNG, INFOSYS, and JINDAL. They worked in fields like IT, consulting, infrastructure, power, development, finance, and research.

Fellowships from the Azim Premji Foundation
The Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship works to improve the Indian public school system, especially in the poorer parts of the country. The work has been focused on grades 1 through 8. The work now goes from K to 12th grade.
In this way, the foundation is a “operating organisation” that has built up a lot of knowledge about school education over the years.
The Foundation also works with the public education systems of other states. It works closely with seven other states in the northeast of India and with the key institutions of many other states. All of these state governments work closely with the Foundation.
Goal of the Fellowship
The main goal of the Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship is to give people a chance to “learn by doing” what real education is. Fellows spend their time reading and learning about education-related ideas. They talk about their ideas with other people in the Foundation, try them out, rethink them based on real-life experiences, defend them, and often change their minds about long-held ideas.
The experience of teaching in classrooms and working with kids, other teachers, and people from the community. By taking part in different kinds of workshops, they also get to see how teacher engagement forums work at the block level. All of these things help them learn more about schools, teachers, and the society they live in.
Immerse
- Fellows work in some of India’s most remote places to learn more about public education. They do this by working closely with government schools in India’s rural areas.
- They have to stay in a government school classroom for at least 120 days.
- Fellows are put in a school in one of our locations, where they teach and interact with other teachers, the community, and people who work in education.
Contribute
- Fellows can continue to work with us after the fellowship in a variety of roles at the grassroots level.
- The Fellowship can lead to a job with the Foundation that lasts for a long time.
- The Foundation needs people who are passionate and committed to help us reach our goal of a fair and just society.
Getting paid and getting benefits
- Fellows will get Rs. 37,000 per month as pay. There will be taxes and legal deductions.
- Fellows also get insurance like health, life, and accident insurance in addition to their salary.
- Fellows are also eligible for things like Relocation and Housing Deposit Assistance Allowances (as per organisational policy).
Criteria for eligibility
Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship is for you if you are doing great work in your current field and are looking for ways to make a real difference in the world.
- Between 4 and 10 years on the job
- A college degree in any field
- Be able to speak English and any of the local languages well (Hindi, Kannada)
- Applicants must be younger than 35 years old.
- Willing to move around the district and ready to work in the areas where the Foundation does its work.
How long the fellowship lasts and when it starts
- Time: one year
- Starting: The Fellowship will start soon
How to pick people
- Stage I: Applying online
- October 29, 2021 is the deadline.
- Screening (Stage II)
- Your application will be looked at after the detailed form is turned in.
- If your application is one of the ones left standing after this evaluation, you will be asked to take a written test.
- If your application isn’t chosen at this point, you’ll get an email telling you so.
- Stage III: Written Test
- If you make the short list after the evaluation, you will get an online admit card to show up for the written test.
- You will have a digital test scheduled for the first or second week of November, 2021.
- If your digital test scores are high enough, you will be asked to send in a Statement of Purpose (SOP). You will get an email asking for a SOP with a due date.
- When we get your SoP, we’ll set up your first round of interviews.
- Stage IV: Interviews and presentations
- The second or third week of December 2021, for personal interviews.
- First interview round: Give a 10-15 minute talk to the interview panel about any social issue that worries you the most. You can make the presentation using Chart Paper, PowerPoint, or any other way that is easiest for you. Your experiences with field observation will also be talked about.
- Those who make it through the first round of interviews will move on to the last round.
- Stage V: Final shortlists and offer are made public.
- Sharing the final shortlist of Fellows (via email): After the interview process is over, within 15 days.
- Offer process: Two weeks after the shortlist is announced
- After you finish the process and it goes well, you will get an offer letter by email and a hard copy when you join.
- If a candidate is chosen for the Fellowship, they have one week from the time they get the offer letter in the mail to accept it. They have to let their current employer know about their decision to accept the Fellowship.
- Soon, the date of joining will change.
How to Apply for a Fellowship from the Azim Premji Foundation
- To sign up for a Fellowship with the Azim Premji Foundation, you must first go to the official website.
- You have to click the “Apply now” button on the home page.
- The application page will show up on the screen, and you’ll need to fill out your information and upload your CV.
- After you’ve filled out all the information, click the “Submit” button to send the application form.
- After you fill out the online application form and send it in, you will get an email with your Login information and a link to a “Candidate Portal.” In that candidate portal, you can see how your application is doing right now. For any action that is taken on your profile, a system-generated email will also be sent to the email address you gave when you signed up.
